Have you ever fancied spending the day on a farm?
If you have, then keep your diary free next Sunday.
Now in its ninth year, Open Farm Sunday has seen over 1000 farms all across the UK open their doors to the public for a one day special event. Visitors can see what farm life is really like as they learn about how the farming community works and what they do to look after our countryside.
This year the event runs on Sunday 7th June and each farm will be running its own unique course of events throughout the day. From farm walks to sheep shearing there’s something for everyone, young or old, to enjoy and to learn.
There are many different types of farm to visit. Our nearest one looks to be a very forward thinking, innovative and varied in the services they offer. Other ones are far more traditionally run operations and there is a lot to learn from every type of set up. To find your nearest participating farm, search the Open Farm Sunday website.
Once you’ve arrived at your chosen farm you can put your photography skills to the test by entering a photo into the Open Farm Sunday photography competition. There are prizes for the photograph that captures the essence of a farm on Open Farm Sunday.
If you’re a farmer, why not take part in this annual event and spread the word about the good that farming does? Makes a change from spreading muck, eh?!
For those of you who decide to go along to a farm near you, I would love it if you would let me know what you thought of your day out. Drop me an email at eyuplass@thatlancashirelass.com and tell me all about it, and you could feature on the blog!
