Pack Hacks and Sandcastles: Preparing for a Family Day Out

If you have a family then there is a high chance that you have spent hundreds of hours driving to attractions and visiting family/friends over the years. You may have also seen your fair share of incredible sights as well, but the main thing that you have to remember here is that disasters can happen and you have probably been through your fair share of those as well. If you want to avoid any disasters in the future then one way for you to do this would be for you to pack well in advance for everything you need. This will help you to keep everyone happy and it will also help you to make the most out of your day out as well.

The Journey

If you are travelling anywhere during spring or even summer then make sure that you have some high-factor sunscreen on-hand. You may also need to take some bug spray with you as well because when you do this, you can easily stop your kids from wafting midges away the entire time. You may also want to pack some bottles of water as well. If you want to save more money then consider taking a sandwich with you or even a packed lunch. When you do this, you can accommodate for everyone’s taste and you can also have way more money left over at the end of the trip. If you plan on taking the route of coach hire then you need to pack the same things, because it will really help you out when you arrive at your destination. In autumn, you’ll need to replace the sunscreen and with some good quality waterproof clothing. There is no such thing as bad weather if you have plenty of suitable clothing. You’ll also need to have a boot protector as well so if you do end up having to put your wellies or dirty shoes in the boot, you won’t get mud everywhere.

Sickness and Boredom

It’s not uncommon for kids to experience travel sickness when they are on a very long car journey. It is more than possible for you to get some kind of tablet to help you with this, and there are plenty of anti-nausea sweets out there a well. These can work wonders. If you want to prepare for the worst then carry some absorbent sick bags with you and a change of clothes, so if someone does happen to throw up their breakfast, you know that you can easily deal with the situation. A lot of kids also get bored in the car and this is completely understandable. The main thing that you have to remember here is that books are not good for car journeys at all, and when you look down at something in the car, this can cause you to experience a very high level of motion sickness. If you want to keep the kids entertained then consider playing games such as I Spy. This won’t work for all kids and some need a bit more stimulation, and if this is the case then it may be worth investing in a tablet mount. You can put these on the back of the car headrest in the front and you can then load them up with a huge range of cartoons or TV shows. This should be more than enough to get them through the long journey.

When You’re There

If you go out with a pushchair then there is a chance that you will absolutely overload it so that you can make sure that you have everything you need. The problem is that in some instances, you may need to carry a rucksack on top of this and this is especially the case if you have kids of varying ages. One thing that you should always make sure that you have is some sterilising gel. When you do have some sterilising gel, you can avoid taking soap with you and it is ideal if you are going to the zoo as well. It does help to check in advance to see if the attraction that you are going to is friendly towards pushchairs. After all, a lot of them tend to have stairs and this can make it difficult for you to take your child around without having to break your back. In some instances it may even help you to take a sling or a carrier. Of course, snacks and toys are a must-have as well. Healthy snacks are always the way to go and this can include fruit or even fruit bars. For toys, you can take some bubbles, sticker books or anything else with you. You’ll want to take things that don’t require a lot of extra space. For example, if you take a colouring book with you then you will need to pack crayons as well and this is a great way for you to become quickly overwhelmed! So try and pack things that don’t require a ton of extra little bits.

Take it With You!

If you are going to the beach, you may think that it is a good idea for you to take your own bucket and spade with you. This will help you to save money when you are there and this gives you much more money to spend on ice-cream as well. If you want to really benefit yourself here then it is a good idea for you to take your own sand castle flags. You can even make them the week before and this will really help you to keep the kids occupied. Of course, if you know that you don’t have anything like this then don’t worry. It is easier than ever for you to buy sand buckets online and there is a high chance that you will save a ton of money by doing this. You can even get ones that come with a huge range of accessories as well and this is one of the easiest ways for you to get everything you need in advance.

Preparing for a family trip has never been easier, and all you have to do is know your kids and the requirements that they have!
