Oh, how rubbish I am at sticking to this meal planning lark! Out of last week’s plan I think we probably had around half of our planned meals, and I couldn’t tell you whether we ate them on the ‘right’ day or not.
We did, however, manage not to have any takeaways this week which is an improvement for me based on the last few weeks, so I declare the week a success. Well, apart from the Jerk Chicken – that was a disaster!
In addition to this week’s meal planning, I’d like to introduce the boys to some fruits they haven’t tried before. I’ve bought the things they eat on a regular basis but also three or four fruits they’ve never seen in the fruit bowl before. So that should be interesting!
So the week ahead looks like this, in theory:
Monday: Lasagne
My eight year old has asked for this especially so we’re having it on the first night of the week.
Tuesday: Steak & Chips
It’ll just be me on Tuesday as the boys go to an aunt after school and stay for tea, so I’m going to treat myself to a (fully cooked) sirloin with a few chips and plenty of fried onions and mushrooms.
Wednesday: Bangers and Mash
The boys love sausage and mash but we don’t have it all that regularly. I think I’ll surprise them on Wednesday with one of their favourites for tea.
Thursday: Chicken Curry
We all love chicken curry here and I make it from a recipe given to me by my friend’s mum. It’s quick and there are never any leftovers!
Friday: Fish & Chips
It isn’t very often I buy battered or breaded fish, but I think this week we will have home made fish, chips and mushy peas for a bit of a change.
Saturday: Sweet & Sour Chicken
While I’m thinking of meals we don’t make as much as I’d like, I think we’ll also chuck in a Sweet & Sour Chicken for Saturday night’s tea.
Sunday: Carvery
Sod it, I’ll have cooked enough by then.

Rarely do I stick exactly to my plan either! Especially the nights of the week, I often switch them out….and by the end of the week, I usually just wing it. This week my plan is entirely vegan, if you want to check it out. 😉
I like the idea of meal plans but i think i would be worse than you at sticking to it. We can but try tho!!
