When I started to plan our most recent holiday the first option I looked at was package holidays. I quickly realised that another very viable option for holiday accommodation though was to book a flight, a car or transfers, and a family villa. I did get a bit ‘through the keyhole’ when looking at all the properties online as there are some utterly gorgeous ones, but there are plenty within our budget as well, with great deals around for both villas and flights. I also ended up with huge wanderlust! These are some of my favourites from places I would love to visit…

Villa Gale, Sao Rafael, Castelo, Gale, Algarve

Perfect for an extra special family getaway or girlie break, this villa sleeps up to 17 people, is 500 yards from the beach and has a private heated pool. It looks practically perfect to me! Follow my tips on planning a group break and adapt for a trip abroad. I’m actually looking at booking a holiday in Portugal for later this year, so if we end up staying here I will be able to do an in-depth review of it for you, too.

Villa Xenia, Nissaki, Corfu

I’ve visited Arillas and Sidari in Corfu but never the area of Nissaki. This little sea side village looks to be a perfect getaway for families. It isn’t too busy, but everything you need is on your doorstep from local shops to water sports. This villa sleeps up to 7 people so it’s more for a family than my last pick, and I love the idea of not having to have a car when you stay as it is so conveniently located.

Villa Amaranthus, Porec, Croatia

Croatia is on the list of places I really want to visit. With beautiful countryside and glorious coastlines it has something for everyone, so I am pretty sure my husband would love it there as much as I expect to. This villa is such great value and so beautiful that it might even be a good idea to take the whole family with us too! It would work out at just over £201 per person for a week in September 2018 – in fact I love it that much I’ve already pitched it to my sister!

What places are on your wanderlust list? Any of these?
