Talgarreg, Wales

A week in Talgarreg on the Welsh coast was the perfect break for us to take this Easter. With our original holiday plans for this year postponed due to the baby we decided to just take a week’s break now and then Ted will take the rest of his holidays from work when the baby is born.

With this break being something of a last minute decision we were struggling a little bit to find a suitable cottage in which to stay, so in the end we just gave the kids the choice. That could’ve been a pretty risky move but as it happens they didn’t do a bad job in choosing The Coach House in Talgarreg, near New Quay. Truth be told, they chose it solely because there’s a games barn on site, but as it happens it’s a great base to explore lots of different places along the coast.

The village of Talgarreg itself is very quiet. I spotted a school and a pub but aside from residential property and a couple of rental cottages I couldn’t see very much more, though we didn’t really explore the immediate vicinity so I could be wrong!

Within half an hour of Talgarreg is Cardigan, with plenty of shops, a couple of supermarkets and its beautiful coast. We went down there for the day on Easter Monday when the boys took part in the National Trust Easter Egg Hunt at Cilgerran Castle. There’ll be a post about that later in the week.

In less than an hour there is also the coastal town of Aberystwyth which has a beautiful castle ruin next to the children’s playground, right by the beach. We spent the best part of a full day there and found that there was something for each of us to enjoy. For me, it was mainly the ice-cream(!)
