I love family Christmasses, but why does it have to be so cold! I think one day, when the boys are older, we might head out to somewhere beautiful and sunny for Christmas. My husband has family in Cape Town, South Africa and they sometimes have a braai on the beach for dinner on Christmas day. Roast turkey with all the trimmings or a BBQ on the beach? I think just once I would quite like to try the latter.

I’m not a huge fan of turkey anyway so I think I’d love to try this Lamb dish – Butterflied leg of lamb on the braai – which looks delicious!

Like here in the UK, Traditional ‘fir’ Christmas trees are popular and children leave a stocking out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. So that’s the gifts sorted! Santa Claus is also known as Sinterklaas & Kersvader for people who speak Afrikaans, one of the languages spoken in South Africa.

I think my perfect Christmas Day in Cape Town would go something like this…

Christmas morning would be full of excitement as the children get up and discover that Sinterklaas has cottoned on to them being away from home, and brought the gifts instead to our lovely hotel.

Lunch would be outside where we would enjoy the aforementioned braai, and perhaps some chilled champagne.

In the afternoon, we’d visit family! We’d play games, eat too many snacks and have the best catch up with people we haven’t seen for such a long time.

The evening would be perfect with a stroll along the beach or by the marina, before tucking the children up after a full day of family fun.

My husband has been before to visit his family in Cape Town and one of his favourite places there is Table Mountain. With that in mind I think Kensington Place in Tamboerskloof would be perfect if we were really treating ourselves. I found this hotel on Destination2 website – if you’re looking for luxury then they are definitely worth a look. So many places choose from and every one is beautiful. Imagine having such a wonderful backdrop to your perfect holiday destination.

If you decided to go away and you could go anywhere in the world for Christmas, budget notwithstanding, where would it be?
