We don’t do ‘roughing it’!

I’m something of a seasoned camper (salt & pepper flavour) but I still use my old faithful checklist whenever we’re packing up the car for a camping trip. (To read about our most recent trip to Clitheroe – in poetry – see here)

It’s really easy to forget some of the obvious stuff if you concentrate too hard on the little things, although if you forget pretty much anything it can cause a problem.

Here is a list I’d recommend for anyone going camping for the first time – without electric hook up.

Beginner’s List

  • Tent
  • Airbeds (We’ve forgotten these before now!)
  • Sleeping bags
  • Torches
  • Lamps
  • Batteries
  • Loo roll
  • Stove
  • Gas
  • Pans
  • Sharp Knives
  • Chopping board
  • Tin opener
  • Corkscrew
  • Large bowl (for the washing up)
  • Table & Chairs
  • Cutlery
  • Crockery
  • Foil
  • Cling Film
  • Kitchen roll
  • Tea towels
  • Toiletries
  • Towels
  • Baby wipes
  • Cool box
  • Hat/scarf/gloves or Sunglasses/hat (or both!)
  • Suncream/aftersun
  • Water container
  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Sugar
  • Juice
  • BBQ (Or buy disposable ones locally)
  • Picnic blanket
  • Food bags
  • Brew mugs
  • Bin liners
  • Carrier bags
  • Washing up liquid
  • Scourers/cloths
  • Dustpan & brush
  • Clothes/PJs (jumpers are mandatory for evenings even in summer)

If you remember all these things you’re on a winning streak!

Next week I’ll be posting a list of camping-friendly food ideas to help you along the way – I don’t want you happy campers to be hungry campers!
